Members of the Rotary International Club announced last night they will play host to a community picnic and entertainment to make a full day of celebration Aug. 31. Topping off the day will be the previous postponed fireworks display.
"This is the Rotary's 'thank you' to the community for all they have done and for their support." explained President Kent Gimbel.
"We have the opportunity to do this. Let's do it right.", he told his fellow members. This should turn out really special."
The festivities begin with the picnic at 2 p.m. Anyone who wants to join the Rotarians for the meal will be treated to hamburgers and hot dogs until they run out. Rotary members will serve as grill master for the picnic.
Citizens attending should bring along a covered dish, a dessert or some chips to share and don't forget table service for your family and blankets or lawn chairs.
At 4 p.m. the entertainment will step off with the Galion High School Marching Band. They will be performing stadium favorites at the band shell. The GHS Showtunes take the stage at around 4:30 p.m. with their first performance of the year.
Tilson and Friends will bring some blues to the stage at 5:15 and the Galion Community Band will follow them up at 6:15 p.m. If bluegrass and a bit of rock are a favorite musical style Secret Garden should be on one's schedule. They take the stage at 7:15 p.m.
The fireworks will go off a little sooner than many may be used to.
"At 8:06 p.m. the sun officially sets according to the U.S. Naval Observatory." Gimbel said. "8:34 is the official end of twilight and at 8:35 p.m. the fireworks begin!"
Gimbel said all times except that of the launching of the fireworks is tentative
