The building's exterior progress along Harding Way West as of September 13th. Above: The new "old store fronts" now have thick double pane glass installed but the painting isn't finished yet. Each "store" is really an apartment and the doors won't function. It is all to keep the historic appearance to be true, befitting a Historic Register Building.

The first public use of the Lobby was for a wedding ceremony on July 30th. It was a full house! The adjoining Community Room (see below) was used for the reception following the wedding.

Here is the Lobby put back to its everyday appearance. The wedding decorations were so nice on the Grand Staircase that they were still in place. What a comfortable place for the residents to meet friends.

Left: Here is the Community Room dressed for that wedding reception. The cake can be seen at the right.
Right: Up on the third floor, behind the elevator, there is this nice place for the residents to meet. There is natural lighting from a row of South facing windows lining the back wall (behind the camera). Cards anyone?

The Galion Historical Society has History Camps for our young people in the summer. Here they are being introduced to our historical buildings in the Uptowne area as they passed by the Hotel and the Zimmerman Building.

At the beginning of July, the back entrance of the apartments was getting some attention with the construction of the sidewalk to the parking area.

The Front Entrance was getting the residence entrance security codes set up. To get in the building you must know your code numbers.   The Galion Fire Appliance Co. installed the fire extinguisher cabinets as well as the security system.

The lady moving in this new apartment wanted to come back home to Galion. She has the one with the bay windows at the corner of the first floor. The moving van people checked the front entrance out and then decided the back entrance would be better.

All of this keeps going on. Finishing up on these thirty apartments is about to finally come about.
But, when you go back to the first pictures and look at where they started and see what a terrible condition this old 1800's building had been allowed to fall into, it is understandable why it took so long.

Some of the work preceding the finished pictures shown at the top of the page.
Looking at these store fronts, you may recall that the roof and all three floors had collapsed at the back of the store on the left. It's all been put back with modern materials. The roof now has the latest membrane system. Our old Central Hotel Building should be around for a good long time.
