February '05 Pictures

Galion was hit with more snow. This one in the middle of the month was really a wet one causing the snow to stick to the branches. Nice for pictures but impossible to allow working on the slippery membrane roof. All of the heatpump heater's outside components are on the roof and need wiring and piping brought down from them to the individual apartments. If the units can't be heated the drywall hangers and painters are held up.

A wide angle view from the third floor hallway window.

Notice the new town clock. The Galion Rotary service club was able to provide it to the Uptowne business district. There had been a clock in that location for many years. Even old post cards from the early 1900's pictured one about there.

The old store fronts of the actual store rooms were torn out at the end of last month. These new one's are replicas of the era when the building was new. That side of the street was always shaded and needed big windows to get light.

To maximize the apartment space these new fronts will only be for the outside historical appearance. The picture at the right shows the back side which will be the bedrooms in the two bedroom apartment at either "store". The windows will all have glass.

Top and bottom left are from the 2nd floor one bedroom corner apartment. This and the apartment on the third floor have this big room for their living/dining area. The kitchen unit is in the opposite corner from the one shown above. (Laura Sells from the Galion Inquirer provided the top picture)

The other two pictures are from the kitchen of the two bedroom apartment in the first floor corner (the old hotel dining room). A lot of the apartments are rather unique because the floor plans take advantage of the old features of the former hotel. There are a few of the thirty that are similar, but many are different from any of the others.

More and more steel studs are defining the room shapes and are being filled with the the necessary wiring and plumbing pipes.   The mason was called in to dress up the edges when the plans called for a new passage through the old brick walls.

The Zimmerman Building to the left and the gray vinyl siding on the new Unit-D wing can be seen in this view from the project's back alley.
