September Progress Pictures of the Central Hotel Project
September Pictures

This month's view of the Public Square from the Central Hotel Apartments was taken from up on the roof.

The leaves are starting to change color.
At the left is looking down Harding Way East. In the upper left the gray roof of the old Big Four Train Station can be seen from here. The picture above would make a good "Desktop Wallpaper" picture for Galionites.

At the beginning of September this third level flooring was being created again. All of the original floors had collapsed under the big hole in the roof.   A little later, the demolition could continue to the west.

By the end of September the "Hole" had been closed in. Note the way the roof is pitched. There will be more to follow on this. The open center area is by design.

From Left: The view of the roof from the corner on the Public Square. Middle: Jack Shrode checking the green metal Central Hotel decoration from the top and says, "there is a lot of work needed here". Right: Finishing up the roof panel installation over the "Hole".

Top left: Third floor, front to back, looking at what used to be at the bottom of the "Hole". Right: The "Main Hall" looking to the West. Bottom: This is the Store front that used to have "Cookies" painted above the front windows. There will no longer be any stores in the building.

Left: The old Dining Room at mid September on its way to being a 2 bedroom apartment. Middle: This 2nd floor apartment's doorway will be extra thick. Right: This what the 3rd floor, far Western end, looked like toward the end of the month. The lit area in the center of the picture is the end of the new Unit-D.

The apartment at the back in Unit-B is the first to get its kitchen cabinets.
Below: The identical apartments on the 2nd and 3rd floors at the front of Unit-B will really look nice when the counter tops come in. The middle door to the right has the air conditioner/heating unit. The washer and dryer will go in at the left.

The plumbers and electricians have to stay ahead of the drywall application. The orange piping is for the fire repression sprinkling system.   Cover up the doors and windows with a sheet of drywall and then saw out the opening. The rooms can take shape very quickly after the metal studs define the locations.

Left: The window facing is starting to go on and the paint scheme is shown.
Bottom: The "mop" tool used to texture the ceiling "plaster".
Right: Applying the plaster and texturing in the B-Unit earlier.
Top: Partially smoothing the texture to achieve the desired appearance.

Top: The outside painting has started to get more attention while the weather is still good. That's a Lincoln Highway marker just unveiled this month. Galion is proud to have been a part of this historic cross country highway.
Bottom: There are a lot of windows to get painted white. The fancy metal trim at the roof line has yet to be addressed. The Lobby walls are getting a rich brown paint and the section added to the back of Unit_B will have brick outside walls.

Everybody became aware of the Hotel's condition when the wall fell out of what would later become the Unit-D wing. These pictures were taken in June of 2000.   The new D wing is covered and waiting it's turn for the metal stud/drywallers to create more apartments in it's three floors.
