Standing in the old dining room looking up at the demolition in progress

The drywallers are pushing the demo in Unit-A.   Behind the camera (previous picture) the Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) duct is going up.   The flooring is off of the very front corner on the second floor.

This is looking at the very oldest part of the hotel... building components from over 150 years ago... when it was known as the Riblet House.

Picture on the left: The old steel column has finally been relieved of duty. Thanks to this column the old hotel held on until it could be saved. If only it could talk.Top left: An excerpt from Doc Mansfield's Galion Inquirer column with some hotel dates. Click on the picture to go to the whole article. Bottom left: The view from the front door on the corner.

There was a little bit of excitement when the masons were replacing bad bricks outside the bay window on the Square side (left). Inside, (right), it was discovered that the 1940 renovation that added the bay windows had only set the two black I-beam headers on the bricks and had not interlocked on to the big reddish I-beam. All the weight of the bricks above the window up to the roof was resting on the few bricks being replaced. A remedy was quickly put in place!

The floor joists for the second floor are being put back on a substantially stronger center beam.   Directly above, on the third floor, the corner room (201) is yet to be stripped down to the flooring.   Consultation between one of the subcontractors and the Construction Superintendent (white hardhat).

This is the western most part of the Unit-A with the front along Harding Way West. The temporary catwalk on the right bridges the "hole" at the 2nd floor level.   Turn around and walk to the other end look back toward the alley. That side is ready for the floor leveling cement, while the foreground is still in the demolition stage.

Here is an update on "The Hole". It has started to come around now. Out front it was behind the store front that used to say "Cookies". Looking through the partially boarded up front you can see the first floor has been put back and the concrete floor leveler is making it look real nice. It is still open in the back to facilitate removal of demolition materials from the Unit-A third floor.

A hallway floor has now replaced the catwalk on the second floor.   The last time a picture was taken here a big icicle blocked the view.   Preperation to build a floor under the walls that were left standing when the "Hole" was created.

The C-unit wing is also almost ready for the drywall to go up. After the drywall goes up good pictures are going to hard to get for a while until the kitchen sinks and cabinets go in.

Jack Shrode. If you see him on the street, stop and thank him for saving our old hotel building. His Galion office is on South Market.   Looking down on the cement pad of new Unit-D that will be built.   The addition to Unit-B. Note the 30 electric meter positions for the new apartments.
