With the Hotel building being revitalized, this half of the Public Square will get to retain the look of the original buildings. The buildings at the far left show the results of the new pride in our Uptowne's appearance. The South side of Harding Way East has never looked so nice with all the new paint and attention.

The negatives of these pictures were marked "Celebration July 4th 1876 Galion, O"
The picture at the left shows the bank on South Market and the Public Square. It was later renovated to its present appearance.

From the 1976 Bicentennial Edition of the Galion Inquirer.     The fine print tells us the date is 1905.
This picture is from one of the Galion Historical Society's annual calendars sold for $5.00.

Probably one of the popular Fourth of July Celebrations. There is an early auto at the far left.

The early Square was first paved with brick pavers.

The Interurban street cars would take you to the Seccaium Amusement Park (half way between here and Bucyrus) and to Bucyrus and beyond.

People must have done a lot of walking
around the turn of the century.

  A picture taken in 2000.
It was still looking good from the front
at this time.

A year later, 2001, time was quickly running out. Things were really getting bad inside after the roof went bad.
