Troop 304 Celebrates 50 Years

Thanks Galion,
The adult committee and all the boys of Boy Scout Troop 304 would like to send out a great big "THANK YOU" to everyone who helped to make our 50 year anniversary celebration a great success. We had approximately 150 people come out and visit us. Our day was filled with many familiar faces from the past and many new faces, who came out just to see what a boy scout troop is all about. We had excellent press coverage, the Galion Inquirer, Mansfield News Journal and TV 68 from Mansfield were all on hand to cover the event.
Our day started at 6:00 am setting up our display tent and food trailer. At 9:00 am we had our opening flag raising and from then on it was socializing for the adults, monkey bridge and tower lashing for the boys. The boys did a great job, they were a great source of pride for everyone. We had cake and drinks for all of our visitors and the troop had pizza for lunch.
At 3:00 pm we held our flag disposal ceremony by the new veterans memorial. This is a respectful ceremony in which old and unserviceable American flags are properly destroyed and the ashes were buried on the veterans triangle. Our sponsor, American Legion Post 243, was there to help us with the ceremony. Together we laid to rest 6,640 symbols of our great nation. This was a humbling experience for us all.
At 4:00 pm we lowered our colors and packed up our tents. The time went by quickly, as it always seems to, when you spend so much time working toward a major event like this one. I hope in 25 years Boy Scouting in Galion will be alive and well and we can do it all over again.
