Plans are under way for the second annual Ohio Lincoln Highway BUY-WAY Yard Sale, with Indiana's portion of the historic road hooking up, too! The three day event will be Aug. 10,11,12. Last year's inaugural event, promoted by the Ohio Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor, saw over 80 group events sponsored by churches, scouting troops, fire departments, etc. Another 350 individual yard sales were also held from East Liverpool across 250 miles along all alignments of America's first coast-to-coast paved road to Van Wert and into Indiana. This year the national Lincoln Highway Association's Ohio and Indiana chapters will also help promote the event. "This year we will not only have group events listed on our Web site as they become known," Mike Hocker, executive director of the LHA pointed out, "but there will also be more local advertising of related community activities in Iocal newspapers and other media. This is going to be a much bigger event this year." The Lincoln Highway Historic Byway Web site, www.historicbyway.com, will have yard sale tips and breaking information for any interested yard-salers. A half day conference will be held in Wooster in late April for community travel and tourism and other key individuals to plan the event. Any organizations or churches located along the road that are interested in fundraising may set up parking lot rental spaces, and are encouraged to offer snacks and other foods. Otherwise, any property owners along the route may set up, but are reminded to obey all traffic and local zoning laws. For instance, Van Wert is planning a community-wide yard sale and cruise-in. That city's merchants will also host sidewalk sales and a special concert featuring Phil Dirt & the Dozers. Stark County's fifth annual five-community cruise-in has been moved to the BUY-WAY weekend to take advantage of the extra fun. A Trunks of Treasures sale is being planned for roving cruise-in participants there. The OLHHC plans to offer signature Buy-Way supplies and memorabilia; yard sale signs, table banners, change aprons and T - Shirts will be available at designated head quarters retailer in each community. |
